Turn Off Check Engine Light
Hello, I'm hoping someone can tell me how to turn off the check engine light on my '98 V70XC. A Youtube video from IPD shows them plugging in a small device into the OBDII scanner port to turn it off. They said the device is very hard to come by now. Anyone know where to get one of these or know another way to turn it off? I have addressed the problem that caused the light to shine, and now want it off. Thank you!

Hi,
Do you really mean the check engine light or the service light?
The service light is hard to turn off, but the check engine light can be reset but that resets all the monitors too. You buy a tool that does it at any auto parts store or online. The service light requires a very special tool however.
You may not want to reset all your monitors anyway though.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Here is a reset procedure for the service light that works for my car via IPD's website: https://www.ipdusa.com/techtips/10170/i ... lvo-models . Some models there is a special tool thats required though
Like MrAl said, if its a check engine light, probably want to have the codes ran and figure out whats wrong with the car as opposed to just turning the light off with a scan tool.

On P2 the light will turn off by itself at car start if the issue causing it has been fixed
