Rear window washer - 2001 V70

Post by oldandbroke »

So, my rear wiper and washer both work.

But something is cattywumpus with the washer nozzle.

A generous amount of washer fluid comes out, and at first it sprays more or less where I'd hope it would on the rear window. But almost immediately as the rear arm starts to move, it seems that the nozzle moves with it, (Edit: I had my son wash the window while I looked stood next to it and watched. The nozzle is stationary. See edit at bottom.) and as the wiper arm moves the spray pattern is deflected and becomes much less optimal. I suspect (though I've only watched from the driver's seat) that a lot of it is getting sprayed on the bottom half of the tailgate, or off to the side, instead of on the rear window.

If I continue wiping, it never seems to return to that same initial spray point from before the wiper arm started to move. But maybe I'm wrong about that because it does always start out there the next time I wash the rear window. (I now understand this is because when I'm done the wiper and the little deflector piece return to their rest position.)

1)Is the nozzle supposed to move with the wiper arm, and to therefore stay in sync with the bit that is deflecting the stream?

2) Is this something easily adjusted?

I haven't tried to play with it for fear that there is some clever bit of swede engineering going on there that I might not comprehend until after screwing it up further.

Any suggestions?

Edit: Additional info - So the nozzle does not seem to move. However, there's a little piece at the bottom very bottom of the wiper arm, where the nozzle pokes out the center of the wiper arm mount, which has what I can only describe as little "windows" for the spray to go through. It's this piece that moves, and as closed portions of this piece cross in front of the stream it deflects it.
