In the 2006 XC70, when I start the car if the handbrake is on (handle in the up position, parking brakes engaged) the brake light and the Check Engine Light (CEL) are on. When I release the handbrake the CEL goes off. When I stop the car and pull the brake on the CEL comes on. After I switch the engine off the CEL stays on for 15 (?) seconds and then goes off. Any good ideas on where to look, what to fix?

Erik - this one is for you...

:-)

Bob - your 2006 is all CANBUS, very little analogue stuff left on these cars, every component talks to a control module somehow, so when things go bad, you do get a lot of weird things happening.

At first I thought you might have a simple wiring problem in the handbrake but that won't fly on an 2006.

My total wild guess is a fault in the DIM which is powering up the CEL when it shouldn't
