I own two 240's one a 75 4 cyl. fuel injected and a 84 diesel that needs to be sleeved and rebuilt. I also own a chevy 350 engine and a buick v6t that needs a rebuild. Can anyone lead me to the bell housings needed to install these engines into the two Volvos. Also does anyone know if the existing 75 4 spd manual trans and the 84,s 5 spd manual trans work with new engines? The buick eng. in 75 240 and the 350 chevy in the 84 240. Also have a 351w and a 390 that both need rebuilding. Just need a little direction please.

All the engine swaps I know about with the engines you mention use the trans from those engines. Bell housing patterns sort of fall under small, medium, medium large, extra large. That is subcompact through 1 ton pickup. The volvo stuff mentioned would be mediums and the buick, chev, and ford stuff is medium large. The transmissions in volvos would have torque capacity below what would be behind those others too. The trans behind the diesel and the B20 4 cylinder is almost the same as a C4 ford and those were marginal behind 351's. There is no bell housing I know of that fits a Borg-Warner 55 or the related Aisin-Warner 55 that could be redrilled for the v6 or v8 motors as the diameter is too small.

The Ford 390 will be rather heavy.

I would be luke warm to buying that assembly....if transmission is still fit for duty...next year in warmer weather.

Only thing I know about is a 700R4 Adapter.

Myself, I would not put a heavier engine in an older unibody vehicle.
