Sunroof crooked and popping noise when trying to open.

Post by paflyboy55 »

I'm new and am looking for some advice. I've owned the V70 for about 3 months. My sunroof doesn't close properly. The drivers side rear doesn't go up fully. When I try and close to close it the motor sounds like the gears are stripped. I haven't tried to open it because I'm afraid it won't close. Am I looking at a headliner removal to correct this problem and what parts may I need?

To get a good look at everything you are looking at headliner removal. Sunroof motor is easily accessed with headliner out. I just replaced headliner in my 850 which I believe is very similar. It is not a bad job to do and would be time to replace headliner fabric if needed. It sounds like one the gears is stripped in motor. I would leave it closed until your ready to do the repair. There's some great how to's on this site and Robert's YouTube channel on the steps to do this. Good Luck.

Try and raise the sunroof and look through the crack to see if the guides are broken. If they are, then look online for removing the four guides without taking out the headliner and just install the two front ones, because the rear ones are a pain in the butt if they break again and you should do fine with just the two front.
