Re: Timing belt alignment off after timing belt job
My 2 cents
I have a 2002 v70 xc. 187+miles . Last Friday while driving 50,55 mph without warning the water pump seized and threw the belt off...
Back in December of 2016 the idler pully was screaming at me, I wanted to replace that weekend so I Stopped at Volvo dealership and bit the bullet and got both pullys belt and water pump.... 2 years ago... I diver maybe maybe 5k a year rest ofthe time the car is garage kept.
Now looking at a head replacement, ,
I guess my points is doesn't seem to matter much anymore by who or where something is made.... Ship Happen.... its the way of the world nothing built to last anymore..... grrrrrr

Two years on a Volvo water pump? Something went wrong there. Save those old parts.
Im across the State in ALB but drive through frequently. Can give a hand with the assesment and cylinder head job.

Hey Abscate..... How are you....
Dont know if you remember me I had the Boots Problem. That put my in the hospital for 2 days I separated a fusion in my neck... grrrrr
Turned out to be the pipe that comes from the intercooler over the motor to the turbo.
The mounting point that little one of two plastic pos plastic weld 3/4 of it has come apart when it was off you couldn't see it , When i mounted back on the car and it opened up.
What PITA that was.... had me chasing my own butt for days!
Right now im looking for a better Camera to see how deep those marks or gouges are on the Pistons before I go any further. Each Piston got hit I dont see anything sitting on the pistons , no metal no valves just contact marks and some kinds look deeper than others... need a better camera/scope to know for sure...

Re: Timing belt alignment off after timing belt job
I know this is an old post but I really wanted to address this after this very same thing happened to me after installing the timing belt on a Volvo V50. The walking issue is caused by the crank pulley not being seated all the way on the shaft. Take the harmonic balancer off, throw a size 30 socket over the shaft and hit the crank pulley in until it is flush with the notches. Throw the harmonic balancer back on and torque the bolt to 133. The belt will walk straight as an arrow and it can be out back together. Hopes this helps others as I couldn't find the answer I just had to figure it out.

I replaced the timing belt pulley and 30 MM nut.

Re: Timing belt alignment off after timing belt job
If you do a google search it happens quite often, someone doesn't torque it back and at some point sooner or later it comes loose.
I never touched mine for the 4 years I've owned it but then one day the nut went awol.
the 4 10mm bolts holding the damper to the pulley were also finger loose.
Re: Timing belt alignment off after timing belt job
Ya, alot of the Google search forums try to blame bad parts and stuff. Found a split in the new timing belt while I was changing out the spark plugs. I have a new one on the way, time to do it all over again lol. At least I won't be doing to water pump, tensioner and idler again.
