1998 Volvo S70 Smog Question

Post by DoggyB22 »

So my 98 Volvo S70 wont pass smog due to an aftermarket catalytic converter that was put on it. It didn't pass years back so they added another cat to it & it passed. Now apparently that cat is no longer CA legal. Recently the Volvo got into an accident causing us to buy a new hood for it. The smog person told us they can't smog it because some sticker on the OEM hood is no longer there. I explained the story about how we had to replace it etc & he said he couldn't smog it without that sticker? So now I'm stuck on what to do? Can anyone here help me on this situation. Would replacing the non CA legal cat with this one https://www.buyautoparts.com/buynow/199 ... 5-34246_Z3 work? Do I really need this sticker that was on my OEM hood? Thanks

honestly.. i'd just check around, ask some people about which shops in your area will pass your car without giving you hassle. reddit city subs are a great place to do this.

Put up your engine code and we will try to get you a picture of that sticker to start.

I don't think there were separate Federal and CA emissions in 1998 so hopefully any sticker with the right engine code will work
