Joking around here at MVS...

Post by matthew1 »

... is ok .

I'm loosening what have been traditionally tight rules regarding what's ok to post.

Volvo People are the Best thread showed me MVS users can talk about sensitive issues without blowing a gasket.

In addition to de-criminalizing sensitive topics, I want to make it clear that answering with a " " is also ok. Some of our members and Moderators here are funny! It's ok to let them know with an emoji.

Just keep in mind that putting a joke thread in a Volvo model forum is not ok. Put that in Non Car Talk. If it's a car joke, put it in General Chat. Don't hijack someone's topic with silliness. Common sense stuff.

It's been dry around here and I want these Volvo forums to be as fun as they are informational.

Also, acronyms. In MVS posting standards: Correct English, no text talk please I ask that you please not use text talk.

I want to make a distinction between text talk and common Web acronyms used on forums (fora, for Abscate :D ).

Web acronyms:

BTW: By the way
ASAP: As soon as possible
WTB: Want to buy
AFAIK: As far as I know
LOL: Laughing out loud
ASAP: As soon as possible
FYI: For your information
FB: Facebook
IMO: In my opinion

Text talk:
i c u r going 2 dinner
I see you are going to dinner.

Please don't use text talk. Please do use Web acronyms, if you care to. I know I'm splitting hairs, but I think you'll get it.

Please don't use text talk.

In short, do not write like your 13 years old or lazy.

If it is not worth your time to write it legible, it is not worth the time it takes to read it. Do not waste other people's time.

I have noticed the occasional political reference to a figure or policy. But I think everybody understands this is primarily a forum about Volvo love (and sometimes Volvo frustration) and pointed political discussions just isn't what we want, at least not here.
MVS is like a thanksgiving get together for Volvo people. Like thanksgiving, with important things happening in the outside world, lightly worded discussion, and the occasional quip/joke is to be expected. But adults in this situation recognize when emotions are stirring and deescalate or drop it. Because we want to get along, we will.
I've been known to comment at length on government policy and refer to my least favorite political figure at the moment superseded by 8 or 10 very unflattering adjectives and an occasional idiom. I let one rip tonight...but that belongs elsewhere (for me it comments attached specific stories on news sites like huffpo or OTA TV news sites such as NBC5 Chicago or Local ABC station in South Bend) ...Not MVS.

It's fine to work in a political tweak into a discussion (I had fun with Norway recently) but the difference here is , if you or I disagree, this isn't the place for back and forth. I've slipped on this banana peel, I mean orange peel, a few times but there is always room To improve oneself.

I'll stay in any Board that uses "Fora" , it means there's lots of smarta people around.

Abscate you tend to be my favorite person on here to banter with. True some subject matter is more serious when other has room for fun. Really it comes down to discernment and if you slip every now and then on a Florida Orange peel, well your human after all! Your friend June
