Remote start doesn't work

My 2013 XC60 will not start using remote starter. When I get into the car the message says car not in park. I don't touch the gear shift and the car will start right up. Last week I got a message saying low battery after I turned the car off and had the radio on for a couple minutes. I was wondering if the battery has anything to do with the starting issue.
