First things first - does the fluid smell burned? If it hasn't been changed recently I would replace the existing fluid.

Which process did you utilize to check the fluid?

So are you getting the blinking up arrow or the solid up arrow?

If you put it in reverse, do the reverse lights go on?

You say it stops working, typo, or intermittent problem?

For raising car, best to go with stock height springs and shocks. ( sell your lowering stuff in classifieds here)

V70 XC has different front struts and rear hub assemblies to yours, otherwise a lot of change overs. On a 98 most for the driveline is the same except for that mentioned earlier.
