Rear wiper arm 94 850 98 v70 96 850

The rear wiper arms on all my wagons are shot- they are corroded and the springs don't have enough force to hold the blade down, instead of spending $125 or more for a factory one anybody tried this one ?

or have any hints ?

No not tried this product. Somewhere Pro-Parts must be able to make a product that works and is durable. Maybe this is it?

I have used the windshield wiper arm assisting springs in the past and they worked ok. Is the arm from the later V70 (98-00) different. Not had an 850 wagon so not sure on that? I know like me you frequent the PnP yards up north in Edmonton. Is it worth taking a look to see if you can find a better arm from a later car and see if it works?

The arms are the same, I have a selection of them, I have contemplated drilling out the rivets, grinding the corrosion off the offending parts and reassembling, but I suspect the issue will return quickly especially as Edmonton is now spraying a salt solution on our roads-assuring us that it won't harm our vehicles but they wont spray it on bridges due to corrosion concerns

Have you looked at the undersides of our cars since they started doing this stupidity of the de-icing agent. Basically liquid salt and highly corrosive. Talked to a guy who spreads this stuff and he agreed it is horrible but he does it as he has to.

I concluded it was that stuff that ate the rear sub-frame on my 'R'. The underside of my cars have all become horribly rusty compared to say 5-10 years ago. Concrete driveway install companies no longer warrant the concrete pads as this stuff is so corrosive it eats concrete!

I got the spring assisters at Crappy Tire or the likes.

Salty roads... If winter tires, and especially studded tires where mandatory in Northern US and Canada they wouldn't need to use so much salt. Salt saves many lives even though I ruins our cars. In northern Sweden they do not use salt, partly because it's useless below -10c and partly due to the fact that everyone is using studded tires.

I bought a NOS rear wiper from the Netherlands;
16 USD. A lot of bargains at his site and shipping to North America isn't that expensive...

We are not allowed to use studded tires where I live. We get warm winds called 'Chinooks' that can melt all the snow quickly, so we end up with dry pavement and it gets wrecked by studded tires. So in the city of Calgary you can be fined for running studded tires!

We have to use this stuff as we often get temperatures below -10C from Nov-March so they use a product called 'pickle' which is a salt /sand/small gravel mix which gets ground into the snow and ice to give grip. What would be good is if people used winter tires and they were mandatory from October to end March.

I'll have to look at that website too. I have used one in Sweden called junk.se which has different brands but not too much P80 stuff these days.

The obvious economic solution is to twin your Volvo and run one with studded snows and one without.

Scot850: Inn Sweden and Norway we use asphalt containing more gravel/pebbles than in continental Europe, hence studded tires do not wreck the roads. The downside is somewhat more noise from Scandinavian asphalt.

Several of the V90 MY wiper arms are another plug and play favorite, another junkyard option.
