Hello,
I have a 1990 Volvo 740 GLE, B200E engine, MK47 II manual transmission. I decided to flush the manual transmission oil and the rear differential oil. I thought I could also do a replacement of the drain plugs to magnetic ones.
- What is your opinion about this? Does it worth?
- I could find drain plug for the transmission (e.g. http://www.cvi-automotive.se/en/article ... drain-plug), however, I could not find magnetic drain plug for the rear diff. One page claimed that they are the same, M18x1.5x12 (http://www.drainplugmagnets.com/volvo.php , text at the blue screw). Is this true that the same plug can be used for the rear diff?
12 years before, I already flushed these oils. At that time, according to Haynes Volvo Manual and other books, I used W90 hypoid gear oil for the rear diff and ATF-F oil for the manual transmission.
Now, I checked some online catalogues, and they recommended 80W90 oil for the rear diff and 10W60 oil for the transmission.
- What is your opinion? What should I use?
Thank you for your answers in advance,
Tamas

Volvo owner's manuals: Read up on any Volvo, from any year.
If differential has limited slip, a special hypoid oil is used. I use what ever an OEM says should be used, or its updated oil.
