1996 850 Glove Compartment Latch Issue

Hi,

My glove compartment door is not closing because the U-Shaped latch that goes into the door release mechanism is loose. Is there a fix or some sort of backing plate because the two screws holding the U-Shaped latch are not tightening properly.

Every time I go to shut the glove compartment door, the latch moves up or down and not catching.

If it is plastic, fill the holes with JB plastic weld epoxy. When fully cured, drill and make new threads.
If it is metal, tap threads to next size and use next size bolt.

It's broken plastic underneath the vinyl for the dash above the u-shaped hook for the latch. My '96 had the same problem. There isn't much you can do but epoxy a stick of plastic behind the broken pieces and hope for the best. I ended up replacing my dash from a junkyard find because my AC evap box was cracked and sucking air. Not for the faint of heart, took all day.
