Okay that was a teaser headline. I have a 2003 XC 70 it failed a compression leak down test... it has tons of new parts including tires, rebuilt engine head, PVC, and transmission. Had it sold on Ebay and the buyer backs out. Now here is the question. I had it sold for $800 which did not cover my costs of the car purchase and new parts. Has anyone had success parting out such a car? What would I typically make doing it that way, Will it take forever to get enough sold to cover my costs and labor... Seems like a lot of work to pull the engine and transmission and then have to store them and body parts like the doors, hood, etc. in a shed or leave it being dismantled on car, which becomes an eye sore.
Any tips about parting out a whole car is appreciated.

They part out slow. I’ve done better than most but I covered my purchase price in week one, doubled it with needed parts, and have probably tripled up again. I’m basically giving the rest of the parts to those in need at this point
Most of the partners are lame though , I put part numbers and price in a sheet and complete sales in one email. I update it periodically or when something large sells.
Why don’t we tackle the bottom end in the Spring? Is it driveable up to my summer place??

Abscate, I appreciate the offer and the idea but I have accepted my defeat, I surrendered... and don't like facing it daily. In fact, i want to sell all my tools because of it. Once it's gone I can stop using a skate boardj and work on Volvos again.
