PCV port

Need some help. Doing the pcv system for the first time. When I got the box off the ports on the engine looked pretty clean. But I cleaned them out really good anyway. The top one is spotless. The bottom one looks clean but when I try to get a brush through it it stops once the brush starts to turn down. Is it possible that the gunk that's in there is actually stopping the brush or is it just getting caught on something. Doesn't that port go all the way down to the oil pan? Should I be able to push the brush all the way to the oil pan?

Try using some clear hose. It will negotiate the 90degree bends. Any debris will be collected in the hose. If you blow air through the bottom hole and if you hear bubbles then the passage way is clear.

First, don't try getting a brush or anything in there. It is not like a straight hole, it can hang on engine parts. If you break a little piece of metal or plastic it will drop in there. I used a small declogging wire but it's risky, it may get trapped. Plus, at the bottom the drain hole makes a V then goes upwards- no way to clean this section without removing the oil pan.

Just blow some air with a hose (make sure it's well sealed), to hear the oil bubbling (have the oil at max level). At worst, if it sounds like it's clogged I would try a little bit of pressurized air into that lower port after removing the dip stick and oil filler cap - too much pressure will blow seals.

I don't think the P80, N engines have the bend.

I use a long zip tie.
