No crank after installation of a new battery

Car ran fine, glove box left open, light killed battery. Put new battery in, car wont crank. Tried locking and unlocking doors. Any suggestions?

Are you getting any power to the car ? if so then the battery may not be charged sufficiently, if not same thing or the plastic protective things may still be on the terminals- loosen the cables wiggle them to bite into the lead terminals a bit and retighten

Yes, all electrical working. Tested battery, all good. Just wont crank. I put power to starter it turns over. Wondering if it’s an anti-theft issue?

Poor contact on the terminals can cause strange issues if not enough current can get through. Heard of very similar problems on a Swedish board just the other day. Car would power nicely but nothing happened when cranking except for the rest of the car losing power. Reconnecting the battery and making sure the connections were good and clean solved it.

I had a similar problem over the Christmas break. I had power to everything but no crank. I had to get out of the vehicle and lock/unlock the car using the primary key.

ZionXIX makes a good point. Make sure you are trying the car with the primary key and not a valet key.

Check the battery voltage across the battery terminals and check it is giving 12V. These cars don't like low batteries but more than 10V it should be trying to start.

If you have a battery charger, give that a shot then try again. Sounds weird, but low batteries can still provide decent power and yet fail to crank.

Try the lock/unlock thing multiple times.

You can try the service start connector. It is a green wire with a red stripe as I recall and it is under the hood, driver's side, sticking out of the harness right by the strut tower. Run a wire from the positive battery terminal to the connector and see if it will crank then. With the key in Position II it should go ahead and start if it cranks.

The service start connector bypasses the immobilizer so that you can focus on which half of the circuit to focus on.

If you can, check voltage on the battery posts while you crank. On a new battery, it shouldn't get below 9 volts.
