S-60 na 5speed engine removal

I'm considering buying a 05 S60 with a 5 speed standard transmission and a rod knock.My question is in regard to removing the engine from the top while leaving the transmission in the car.Is it possible to shift the tranny over enough to gain clearance by un bolting the mounts?I know the consensus is to drop the cradle,but I really don't have the needed clearance to raise the car.Opinions or suggestions?Has anyone encountered this situation?Thanks in advance!
