2002 C70 door check sheet metal

The sheet metal attaching the door check spring on the driver side door tore away, leaving a hole in the door jamb. Looks like I have to weld a piece of sheet metal onto the door to fix this. Anybody else have any experience fixing this, and what to look out for?

Don't recall reading anything on a C70, but not uncommon an issue on 850's and V/S70's. There have been a few threads on this, but try searching under check strap.

Unless you have either a really nice MIG setup or preferably a TIG and are quite experienced, you may want to forgo it and bring it to a local welding shop. Odds are it will be only a $100 repair - possibly cheaper. You don't want to overheat anything in there.

They may opt to use a spot welder.
