1996 Volvo 960 Fuel Rail

Post by Volvo2009 »

I don't seem to find this part. As I am told it is a discontinued part.

Can anyone, please refer me to a parts vendor who does sell this unit - or the exact replacement part for it.?

If vendors are allowed, they have my full permission to contact me at
zorbah007@Yahoo DOT com

thanks

It is Volvo part number 1271738. Yes it is discontinued.
It is just a pipe ... why do you need a replacement?

Rick
Thanks for the follow-up. My mechanic pointed out that the PN needed is:
9179340

the other 2 part # are just the hoses which go with this part
1271869 (which you pointed out)
3528492

thanks

The part number you have appears to be wrong. I cannot find and reference to a Volvo part number 9179340 anywhere.
The view below is for a 1996-1997 960, click twice and observe the part number. Still, why do you need a new one?

Rick,
thanks again for correcting me. I am not sure this is the number which my Mechanic gave me. He told me Volvo had stopped making this part some 4 years ago. Perhaps I need to recheck & verify it with him.

My car emits gas fumes when stopped. I am told, this is a common problem with fuel rail on 960 models.
I would appreciate if you could educate me on the fuel rail issue, and the parts associated with.

The fumes seem to come from the engine.

Please forgive me for my ignorance. Despite the fact, I have had this car for 22 years, and only 150K miles, I don't know all needed to know about the car. I gave it to a family friend who is a professional mechanic. He examined the car and told me about the need to "replace the fuel rail" and gave me the 3 part numbers. I told him I will check with my Volvo forums as well.
He is checking with his suppliers for this part.

I like to know if the leak can be fixed through replacement of hoses and gaskets, or there are other parts which need to be replaced.?

The end cap leak is a common problem with these fuel rails. There is a upgrade fuel rail that does not leak but it is hard to find also, not sure what the part number is. However if he is a professional mechanic and the end cap is leaking. Tell him a fillet of JB Weld around the edge of the end cap will fix it quick and cheap. If he does a neat job it looks factory.

Thank you Rick.

In my family, we have been driving only-Volvo since 1983. I love this car (my wife drives XC90), and I really don't want to get rid of it for a minor problem like this.
Anyway, I will forward your comment to my mechanic and see what happens.

All the best
Levi
