P80 Driver seat leather and seat bottom replacement ( re titled) Topic is solved

My driver seat bottom is toast and I stumbled into a good P80 passenger seat

I was planning to strip and swap leather this weekend but...

Then thought perhaps I could swap seats

Alas, the seat rails are handed ( chiral, if you want to impress a Greek date) so its a no go.

Until I realize the seat rails can be swapped. It looks like they just are retained with s roll pin

Note the Beetle convertible with the rare P80 hood seat option
Hopefully seat belt latch and electronics can be swapped , I will lose power seat in driver side, whatever

Hmmmm, maybe swap my driver and pass hardware and bolt this one into the pass side??

I wonder if that rare Beetle P80 seat option's SIPPS bag could double as the VW poor man's vertion of the Volvo Pedestrian Air Bag? Or possable air deflector like the Mercedes pop up deflector for the convertible? Or with adjustment a front rumble seat for the fifth passenger? Oh the possable uses are infinite! That definitely wins the photo of the month. June

I might getting deja vu all over again. I think you run into a problem with the back seat bottom structural tube, which asymmetrically projects out on the outboard side of each seat. This the passenger side seat will hit the inner console
