Dayco timing belt fail

Post by oragex »

Very quick video about my amazing experience with the Dayco timing belt kit. Ended replacing all components after a very short period, fortunately I didn't install at that time a water pump from them.

This was back when I was new to Volvo and didn't know which brands to choose

Make your own conclusions

Forgot to mention, the roller from the kit started trowing grease from day one. I later on replaced the tensioner as well just to be safe, but left the belt in place for 25000 miles. This is how the belt did look after 25000 miles/4 years.

- Conti TB kit only.

- WP: Aisin is preferable. HEPU is fine but you need to use OEM gasket I think.

No, no, no on the Conti TB kit.

Only the belt should come from Conti. The rest of the timing belt kit should be Aisin, INA, etc, piece by piece. Or just buy the TB kit from an online Volvo dealer parts site, that can often be very cost effective.

Water pump only Aisin for me, these need replacement so rarely (200k) that each of us will only do it once if we run the car for 400k miles.

- What if I tell you that the Conti TB Kit TB331K2 (people to verify if this fits their car, listed here only as an example) contains a Conti TB and 2 pulleys made by INA? Best is to call the seller (such as IPD etc.) and ask them to open the Conti box and tell you exactly what is inside the box.

- However, I kind of agree that if you are "insecure", then spend another $15-$20 and buy the Volvo Blue Box TB Kit.

I didn't know that about pulleys in the Conti kits, good info thanks ... good alternative strategy to find out what's in the kit.
