2006 S40 (2.4) Error Codes. Can anyone advise?

Picked this up for my son to have at college. Minus a tired battery, the vehicle has been great.

Met him this week and he mentioned that he had some messages and a check-engine light come on, but then it went off for him.
Swapped vehicles so he had room to bring everything home and I got the same errors and eventually the check-engine.
I don't have the exact language of the messages/errors, but they were skid-control and transmission needs service or such.

Anyhow, got the vehicle to my independent shop ~ who I trust implicitly ~ and he ran the codes for me.
The include:
530D
0039
0031 and 0041 and 0101.
(this is what my tech gave me, but I think the full codes would be ECM530D, TCM0039, ABS0031, ABS0041 and BCM0101).

My hunch is that these are related, but before we start throwing new parts at things, I thought I'd look for some advice.
I see reference to the 530D code, but not specific to the S40.

Any knowledge is much appreciated.
