2001 V40 throttle body hose identification

Post by jefe » Mon Apr 30, 2018 11:45 am

Hi all,

While working on my 2001 V40, a hard plastic hose snapped that runs to the top of the throttle body, but I am unable to identify what this is in order to get a replacement.

That runs from the throttle body to the brake booster.

That helped me narrow it down and then I found a diagram showing the hose as no.13 and the piece in the throttle body as no.18.

But those two parts aren't listed of course.

Now I'm thinking I can just replace it with a regular rubber style hose and a clamp.

Thanks for this because I didn't even think to look for brake parts. I was searching throttle body parts.

The good news is I found the replacement. The bad news is the price. I'll definitely be replacing with a regular hose as I don't see how this could affect anything.

I don't know the ramifications of substituting a different hose.
My gut tells me that Volvo probably specified that rigid hose for a reason.

Doesn't everyone always say Volvo's are over engineered sometimes? :D

In this particular case, other than preventing it from kinking, is the only reason I can see why it would be rigid. Seems to be a simple hose to direct air flow, no?

If it possibly actually a vacuum line?? (am not sure) then the pipe may be rigid to resist it caving in on itself under vacuum and blocking itself off.

Interesting thought. I'll have to test that theory.
