Swapable driveshaft for 1999 V70 AWD/XC

Is it possible to substitute a driveshaft from another year on a late 1999 V70 AWD/XC?

If you mean the prop-shaft that runs from front to back, if I recall Volvo changed that about 3 times from 97-00. Main changes were the end flanges are different diameters and the fitment of the flange into each end is different with some being flat and some countersunk.

I would always check carefully that the front UJ and center support bearing are good before trying to remove one from another car. If funds allow, send your existing one to Colorado Driveshaft and have it re-built. You can run the car without it until it comes back. Car will drive as a FWD vehicle.

Mark the flanges on the shaft and the angle gear and VC ends to make sure they are positioned in the same places when re-fitted. If balanced properly it should be ok without that, but Volvo were rumored to use different flange bolt lengths to help dynamic balancing of the driveline. Having said that, I have never seen one with different bolt lengths.

Thanks for the info! Yeah this 1999 has been very particular about parts associated with the propeller shaft. It does not surprise me that they changed the design 3 times in 3 years.

You could try Erie Vo-Vo in NY area to see if they have a good used one in stock for your car. They warrant their used parts.

i actually found a used driveshaft for pretty cheap. Hopefully that will work out. Thanks
