Abnormal Sunroof Operation

Post by Boosted40 » Sun May 27, 2018 4:39 pm

Hey there guys. This is my first post here so first off, hi. Second off, I would like to introduce you all to a very odd issue with my S40's sunroof.

To denote any lack of diligence on my part, I have tried reprogramming, different ways, and probably spent a nice sum of time concerning researching and fixing this issue myself.

So, here is the issue. I have a 2002 Volvo S40 1.9T (North American model), and a while back I went to crack the sunroof to go into tilt mode, but I didn't put it up all the way, and pushed it to go back down. Ever since then, the sunroof has seemingly disabled the auto open feature, and seems to be out of sync. After this happened. I tried opening the roof all the way, and then it would not close. I found later that if I held the button down to "re-sync" it, or whatever, that I could wait approximately 5-10 seconds, then I could close it manually via the button. After closing it from any position, it does not automatically align with the rest of the roof, meaning, I have to put my hand on the roof to see if the glass was level with the roof.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? I'm considering selling the car soon because gas here in PA is just ridiculous (93 OCT is about 3.70), so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't have much to offer, but why not disconnect the battery overnight or even a few days if possible.
Perhaps that may reset whatever controls the feature.
At least it won't cost anything.

Too bad you're selling due to gas prices. That's about a similar price here.
I've only used 87 octane for years. Car now has 217,000 miles and returns about 30 mpg.
Maybe you can try a lower octane to save some $.

So I tried the disconnecting idea for a few hours. It's a no go. I even tried re-programming afterwards. Hmmm.
