Does The Dealer Have To Reprogram a New Keypad?

Post by Wagon99 » Wed May 30, 2018 4:07 pm

I'm a Newbie here . . . couldn't find anything on this on Search.

It's for a 2002 V70. The keypad stopped working. I tried changing the battery, no help. So, I ordered two new keypads from RemotesRemotes.com. This is the one I bought: https://www.remotesremotes.com/product-p/vo_456-tri.htm

Is there any way I can do the reprogramming myself? Or does a dealer or a licensed locksmith have to do it?

If you have the red security light on your dash, you MIGHT BE able to do the reprogram yourshelf.
If you don't have the red security light, you will need to take it to a dealer.

To manually program the new remote,
1. Ensure that all doors, hood, and trunk are closed.
2. Insert key into ignition.
3. Turn key to position #2 and back to off at least 5 times in ten seconds.
# The LED indicator should start to flash. Once indicator starts you have 15 seconds to program remote.
4. leave ignition on.
5. Press the lock button on the remote.
# The indicator LED lights for about 2 seconds acknowledges the programming.

Side note: Sometimes the electronics in the old fob are good it the buttons that are the problem. You can try moving the old fob electronics to the new fob case.

If none of this works ... dealer.

Have you tried opening up the old fob and cleaning the key contacts with a Q-tip and alcohol or electronics cleaner?

Did you insert the new battery in the right direction?
