I'm working on an Amazon that has not been driven for many years. I know this is not the Amazon page, but it appears that the forum for that car does not get much attention, so I am looking for some help here.
The car will start/run for a few seconds if I squirt fuel in the carburetor. It has a clear fuel filter. I noticed that no fuel was pumping through it when it would start, so I installed a new fuel pump. As I pulled off the old fuel pump, dry stuff came out of the pump (little flakes of something). I intend to drain the fuel tank so my initial thought was I'd blow compressed air into the metal fuel line that comes to the fuel pump from the fuel tank. Any of that dry stuff in the line would get blown by the compressed air into the tank. Then I would drain it out, put in fresh fuel, new soft lines and fuel filter and I should be good to go. Am I on track?
Thanks in advance for constructive input and for your help getting this old Volvo moving again.

It sounds like you are dealing with dried out gas sludge. I have never had any need for this but, I have heard one cup of OxyClean (sodium percarbonate (Na2CO. 3• H2O2)) per gallon of water will rehydrate the dried up sludge and allow it to be flushed out.
If you can collect some of the dried out sludge, you can test this in a cup of the solution.
