My 1995 855 needs AC work - compressor cycle in and out very quick, less than 5 seconds. AC was working fine yesterday (Saturday), then today (Sunday), it started rapidly in/out compressor cycle. I use to go to Swanson Volvo garage in Brookline, MA. Now, this garage is closed forever (owner passed away in last Dec.).

Any good Volvo garage in Boston area other than dealer ?

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng

I don't know if you consider Rockland ma. (south shore) the Boston area but there is a shop named WCS there. I have not used them since I do all my own repairs. They have operating for a long time.

Thank you for the reply. I will give it a try even though I am living in Boston area. I try not to go to dealer if possible.

Go to a jiffy lube place and get your charge checked - I think this is cheap/free

It is likely you have a leak based on age and reported failure mode. The evaporator is the most common to go,and the most expensive of course.

Evaporator was replaced long time ago by dealer while car was under warranty. Then compressor and then accumulator 3 years ago. I could not believe that only 1 night, AC stopped working. Must be a big/huge leak ....

No, it just fell below threshold for the pressure switch to allow the compressor to turn on. A slow leak won’t even be noticed by most until this point is reached.

Evaporator life is about 10’years so if it was replaced on warranty, it’s probably due for new
