04 C70 convertible transmission...slip?

I just acquired a beautiful 2004 C70 convertible from my parents, they moved and cant use the car...lucky me! After driving the car for the past week a few things are bothering me, probably because Im used to driving my newer truck. None the less this isnt my first Volvo so I know they have their quirks.

On to my issue, every once in a while it feels like the automatic transmission slips, the RPMs don't jump all over the place so its odd to me. I feel like this happens randomly and usually between 1st/2nd gear at low speeds.

I do not know when the last time the tranny fluid was changed, so that is on my list of things to do. Was kind of wondering if anyone had any insight to issues like this.

If it is a 5 speed, you will need to know if the TCM/TCU has been updated at the dealer. By all means, flush the 3309 fluid.

It is an automatic, not a 5 speed manual. Any other ideas?

I was referring to your car as an automatic with 5 speeds rather than a 4 speed automatic, the manual boxes have 6 speeds. The 5 speeds have a programmable TCU.

Oh, I apologise for the misunderstanding. How would I find out if it was updated at the dealer? My car has Drive,4,3,L next to the shifter, with the winter driving option. Also it's a 2.4 LPT

Like the others said a flush is good and an update... however ... I know this may seem strange... but I would change all motor mounts including the little one on the transmission with lemforder brand or something... not necessarily OE .. But something comparable. FCP EURO....IPDUSA.COM. for some reason it takes out the slack in the drive line. Especially if they have never been done...MDK

Ask where your parents got the car serviced, and then call them to find out about software updates.

I talked to my old man, he has replaced the upper and lower torque mounts but not the sides, should I attack the sides?

He has had the car serviced at Volvo a few times, but it gets expensive. He is a mechanic by trade so he typically takes care of the cars himself.

He has changed the fluid 2 times with the Volvo 3309 and added Lucas treatment, he is unsure of the update but thinks it was done. Can I call Volvo to inquire about this?

Other than this hiccup the car is getting 27.7 mpg out here in the hot Az sun with AC on all the time!

I just found this nugget of information from a Volvo website. Is this in fact correct, if so it goes against all of what everyone has commented on. I am now confused!!!

"Software updates apply to all Volvos from model year 2000 onward, with the exception of the Volvo C70 up to model year 2005 and S/V40 up to model year 2003. The complimentary software updates are for enhancements for your car only. Charges apply for new software required as part of a repair or accessory installation"

I would still talk to Volvo. I occasionally get a similar issue. My 2000 V70R theoretically is not covered, but it has the same 5 speed trans as the first P2's so could have a trans that can be affected in the same way. I know my dealer well and the foreman says the next time it is in he will have the guys check the serial number to check it for the B4 servo issue, which supposedly only affects the S60, V70 and XC70 from 2001-2004? if I recall correctly. If your car has a 5 speed auto, then I would argue the case unless they can give you a very good reason and proof why your trans would not be similarly affected.
