swapping motors-2002 V70 T5

Im a novice preparing to swap a motor. Im am sure on a lot of things. I have assembled the tools listed on YouTube for the swap. I downloaded a service manual. I'm unsure about one thing in particular. You adviced me that I coud swap 99-07 V70 motor and that it should be drop-in. If I go up in model year say an 04 V70 motor, what am i looking for to match? Second, does a motor have to match or be compatiable according to the vin? Im assuming that within those years there are also parimeters. I guess i'm hoping to get a clearer understanding of how interchangeable the v70 motor is within those years. Thanks
