Parts car??

Post by DoItMySelfGirl »

Can parts from a 1999 Volvo S70 GTL be used for a 2000 V70 SE?? I'm sure this is a silly question being the S70 is a turbo. But wishful thinking none the less. I need a front transmission speed sensor desperately (but strapped for cash, just moved along w/ 12yr old getting hit by a car(broken Tibia only)and 18mo broke a bone in hand in same week). So I'm crossing fingers in hopes that I can use part of this car that is freely available. Also New problem arose where I cannot take my key out of my ignition because the car is going into park but not registering that I guess. So I WD-40 did the shift override mommy I'm all done. So yeah it's clicking into gear but still cannot turn my key all the way to get it out, and he quit any hin ignition because car is going into park but not registering that I guess. So I WD-40 did the shift override mommy I'm all done. So yeah it's clicking into gear but still cannot turn my key all the way to get it out, does anyone have any idea of what that could be, and if it's related to my front transmission speed sensor.

The speed sensor should be the same but I don't think that is your problem. The P80 70 series has a bit of a weak link in the ignition tumbler and it is a bit of a bear to replace since the bolt heads are designed to break off.

There are several write-ups on how to get it apart and repair it in the repair database:

Diy 1998 volvo v70 ignition switch cylinder lock replacement

Some of those are specific to a '98 but they apply equally to a '99.

My 2000 V70 has same problem with the key in the ignition. In my case it is because the button on the shifter (to shift out of park) doesn't pop all of the way back out. I just wiggle the button around until it pops all of the way back out. It helps if you don't press it in further than you have to when shifting out of park in the first place. This has always resolved my problem with key.

Also check the shifter over-ride (small black button the right of shifter lever on center console) is not stuck down.

DIMSG...MDK here. Hello, it seems that you have several issues going on at once. With out actually seeing what the trouble is... first I'd like to mention that the speed sensor is located in both the front and rear hub assemblies. They're magnetic and work off of the axles when they turn. Secondly , make sure the little button you have to push in on the shift handle pops out. Mine gets stuck sometimes and I can't the key out either. Or...or you may have to have the shifter linkage adjusted. Happened on my S 60. Same problem...key wouldn't come out. Just suggestions. Hope this helps... rolling on

MDK ..by the way , Yes. Alot of parts are interchangeable from a 99- 2000. The main differences are ...is this turbo? Is this AWD ? Most stuff is interchangeable... interiors, body panels, headlights, taillights, radios. But the cars have to have the same " driveline" same engine, same type of transmission, same type of rear differential.. That would be true on any manufacturer...
