Location of the charcoal cannister (2002 V70)?

Post by Mr. Detail » Mon Jul 09, 2018 6:12 am

I have searched the net pretty well but still can't seem to find the exact location of the "charcoal canister" that works in conjunction with the fuel evap. stuff. Just wanted to replace that "J" hose.

FWD, right?
Mine was dead center atop the rear suspension assembly.
It helped to remove the left (driver's side) rear fender liner. It's a squeeze. I loosened but didn't remove its bracket bolts to allow it to move-providing access.
I used a deep socket with a rubber band wrapped around it so I could use it as a handleless wrench.

Also, are you sure it's the J hose? I shoved a scrap of garden hose onto the fuel filler neck's air intake and blew into it. I could hear the escaping air hiss and instantly located my leak.

Make sure you have the larger pop-rivets and pop-rivet gun for reinstallation of the fender liners.

I took pictures but my computer doesn't jibe with fora posting software. I can email them to you. G&K

Georgeandkira, you could be my new best friend, although i am not sure I personally could handle all that removal and re-installation of a fender liner. No, I am not sure it is the "J" hose. Trying to remove that P0442 code.

To abscate: All 4 pictures I have have been sent. The downward bulge to the right in these pictures is the spare tire well.

To Mr. Detail: All you need do is drill out the plastic rivets which are there. They are soft and drill out in an instant. It takes a 3/32" or 1/8" bit and any drill.

Repeat: Why not try removing the right liner and blowing into the system's air filter (on the filler neck).
As reported above, I heard the hiss of escaping air and located my leak.

Replacement body rivets are common items and pop-rivet guns are cheap. You even see them at garage sales.

Maybe we should hook-up?

Ive found to be careful with that request, with respect to generations, is prudent.
