Post by cpozzer » Tue Jul 10, 2018 9:00 am

It sounds like there's no compression. I'd pull the top timing belt cover and make sure the belt is OK.Then I'd check the compression, both dry and wet.

The crank speeds way too fast, much like when there's not spark plugs installed. Is it your car? Did the engine shut off all of a sudden? As above, it feels like the timing belt snapped (can happen with cheap timing belt parts) and the cam doesn't follow the crank causing no compression. Just undo the two torx screws on the upper engine cover, then release two clips and lift the cover.

Yup, no compression. The timing belt was loose and probably skipped 3 or 4 teeth. The engine is damaged, we will remove the head and see whats to be done.

Thanks

There may or may not be engine damage, depending on how far the belt slipped. Before you pull the head off you might want to borescope the cylinders to see if there has been any valve contact on the piston crowns. Maybe try looking at the belt, tensioner, idler, etc and see just how far off things are.

I do not think there is other damage, they just touched looking at the marks on the pistons

The pistons have marks on them even if the valves have not touched, so don’t pull that head. Reset the timing belt To the marks and check compression.

Don't forget to replace the PCV while there

Judging from the photo, it looks like the head is already off. So now what, fill the combustion chambers with solvent and see how fast they drain through the valves?

IF the heads are off, just do the valve and seal job.

It really does pay to do the compression test while it still together though.
