2006 V70 base, auto. Timing belt change tomorrow. Water pump will be changed as well. Accordingly, coolant gets drained. I won't be able to pick up Volvo coolant between now and tomorrow morning.
Any recommendation on preferred coolant? My mechanic will use universal/green if I don't supply my own coolant. I was thinking along the lines of G5. What's best alternative to Volvo brand coolant?
Thanks.

I'd rather fill with the Prestone Radiator Flush+Cleaner plus a few gallons of distilled water and drive gently for a few days, then rinse with distilled water, then fill with Volvo coolant ($25) + dw. It is a good start not knowing what was in there before. I just did this because I didn't get enough cabin heat in winter, now it blows at 180F

Re: Coolant -- Need Brand Recommendation
Pretty sure I've got Volvo coolant in there now. Have to go with what's available at the commercial auto parts stores in the near term -- probably opting for G5. I don't want to put new coolant in then replace in a few weeks' time with Volvo coolant. I hate dealing with coolant. It's a feel thing. I dislike the greasy/slippery aspect of it. Plus disposing of used coolant is a bit of a hassle.

If you have sewers most muni allow disposal of personal amounts down the drain. Check with your local muni for their regs. Glycol breaks down in a week or two.

Re: Coolant -- Need Brand Recommendation
Valvoline HOAT was what was available. That's what I'll be using unless someone gives me a good reason not to between now and tomorrow morning.

Re: Coolant -- Need Brand Recommendation
My two cents: anything of decent quality will do fine as long as it's the only stuff in there.

Re: Coolant -- Need Brand Recommendation
You can plan a timing belt change and not have time to order a jug of Volvo coolant online?
