850 Turbo stock Muffler

Has anyone put a stock OEM muffler on an 850 recently or had it put on for you? I installed the one that is on my 850 now about 3 years ago and now it has a small hole on the pipe where it attaches to the front of the muffler and the tailpipe section rusted off about a foot from the end. When I received the muffler three years ago before I put it on I inspected it and thought that the welds looked pretty strange and the worst part was that where the pipe exits the muffler was squeezed down when attaching to a diameter that was probably 1. 5 to 1. 75 in . I put it on anyways because I assumed that if I ordered a different one that was also OEM I might get a similar result. Since I need to replace this one soon I wanted to know if anyone has bought one recently so that I could try to get an oem Muffler that was made to higher standards and without that annoying squeezed part where they attached the pipe to the rear of the muffler (I'm not referring to the part that arches up behind the muffler and is somewhat flattened so that it could fit between the parts it needs to I don't mind that because I know the pipes volume is the same it's just been flattened a little bit . The part I'm referring to is actually squeezed down at the attachment point so that it is actually a much smaller section of pipe at that one spot) . I really don't think this smaller squeezed down part is a good thing since most people are looking for better flowing exhaust. I really like the sound of the engine and having an exhaust that you can't hear and doesn't drone on the highway and it seems like every aftermarket exhaust that is not OEM is performance-oriented and people say they drone or that you can hear them on the highway which I absolutely don't want . The T5 engine sounds so nice I'd much rather hear it than an exhaust note. Anyways I'd really appreciate it if anyone can share their experience with purchasing an oem turbo muffler and whether or not it had any manufacturing shortcomings like the ones I mentioned especially the one about the way the pipe attachment was squeezed down to restrict flow at the back of the muffler.

The blue box exhaust is not OE quality anymore as far as I know. They are a major step down in quality. Might as well go with cheap aftermarket or high quality ss exhaust

I haven't been able to find a quiet as stock stainless steel Muffler/cat back anywhere. Do you know where to find one? Everything I have seen is performance-oriented and not quiet.

When buying 'stainless' look for it being made from T304 stainless. If it is made from 'T407' (?) it is no better than mild steel and you are getting ripped off for price.

The jetex two muffler system is made from 409 Steel. Is this the stuff that is a rip-off because that catback system is $600? I don't know if this system is considered to be one Muffler and one resonator but it's got two things that look like small mufflers.Snabb calls it a dual resonator system. Maybe it's just semantics. Anyways this two "muffler" system is probably relatively quiet but does anyone know if you can hear it on the highway at Cruise or how much louder than stock it is?

304 vs 409 - who cares if it doesn't stay perfectly shiny underneath? Hopefully the tip is 304 so it doesn't corrode too quickly though

My T409 muffler system was holed in the mufflers within 3 years and low mileage (< 5000 km).

If you feel that is value then go waste your money. When time allows I will have a custom T304 system built. I was told by the custom manufacturer (local) it would be no more than the T409 that is currently fitted.

I guess I don't really think of these things as much because I live on the West Coast

An exhaust rusted through in 3 years is unfathomable here! I'm with you on the custom T304 front though, that would be really really nice. What would be the ballpark cost? With or without downpipe and cat?

Isn't that video of the jetex with a single silencer? I'm considering the one that has two silencers or resonators as snabb calls them . There is a video on YouTube that says jetex exhaust with a black 850 and it is fairly quiet that must be the 2 silencer system and I don't know if you have a cat on there either but regardless that setup you have is much more noisy than what I want. I think the 850's exhaust note sounds nice at Idle with it's a quiet burble with the stock exhaust and when underway I can't hear it at all but the louder exhausts on 850s just don't sound that good to me. The engine on the other hand sounds great so the more quiet the exhaust the more I get to hear the engine .
