RHD V70R swap to LHD S70?

Post by ViperKeeper2070 »

I have an opportunity to snap up a RHD V70R wagon and wondering if the driveline would swap over to a LHD S70? I really wanted the front bumper and seats as well..
Or...would I be better off using a RHD V70/S70 T5 as the donor?

Is the S70 an AWD or are you planning for it to be. As the V70R is RHD, I am assuming it is possibly a Japanese import. What year is it as 98 is the easier to work with. Japanese cars also have different emissions systems which I am not 100% sure but may be unique. It may be possible to adapt the emissions to NA spec. Is your S70 an automatic and what year? Again if the trans is good it should be able to use it's transmission with the V70R motor assuming they are both 4 speed units.

Check stuff like brakes as they may have different parts, but again the S70 parts should be ok, but you may want to uprate the front rotors/pads/caliper brackets to the larger 'R' front brakes.

Let us know more about the years and spec of the 2 cars to help you further.

Sorry, the S70 is a 99, non-turbo automatic FWD car.
The V70R's were all produced (I believe) in Late 97, which should make them 98 models, plus there is one 2000 model. Yeah, I'd definitely upgrade the brakes and suspension as well from the R.
I also found V70 T5 wagons ranging from early 97 to late 99.
I also wanted to use the upholstery from the R Wagon. Could I put the backseats from the wagon and fit them in the sedan?

The V70R ran from 98-00 MY's in North America. Does the 'R' have a distributor with plug leads or coil packs? 98 has distributor and 99-00 have coil packs (I have a 2000 V70R). There is a V70R in laser blue (00 year) up here in Edmonton with a bad motor on Kijiji for sale.

As Misha says rear seats are not compatible from sedan to wagon unfortunately. Even 98 to 99 front seat swaps are not straight forward due to the way the airbags are triggered changed (from mechanical to electrical).

Oh wow. Thanks, Neil, that's great info. Yeah, if seat swaps are gonna be that much of a headache, I might just skip the seat swaps and just stick with the mechanical swaps. As far as the distributor vs. coil packs, I'm not sure. I'll have to get more pics and do some homework.

Brake parts have big changes between LH and RH drive. I recall seeing completely different disassembly procedures as the engine compartments are not mirrored, different parts are used.
