2011 C70 T5 Camshaft seal replacement - Timing check

Post by MJ67 »

I have to say that this has been one PIA job, not difficult but tricky finding out all the tricks of the trade and getting the timing set back and with the CVVT Solenoid (Reset Value) going out on the intake for no apparent reason but to cause more confusion and headaches. Finally got it running great and no codes but had a bad oil leak coming from exhaust side of camshaft so I assumed that it was a problem with the new seals that I replaced (I did both Intake and Exhaust). Now just to let you know that I ran it a few times without any oil leaks but was having EC codes which turned out to be related to the solenoid but before finding that out, played with the timing a bunch of times, removing the belt and adjusting the timing so I figured that I messed up the seal doing that. I am attaching pics of what I found when I pulled the Phaser off the exhaust side. I want to know if anyone has ever seen a seal like the pictures before? I know I did not over torque it and it was installed correctly, just the same as I did the intake side that is not leaking.
Thanks in advance for your input.
