Drive shaft removal from donor car

Post by Clemens »

Thinking about parting out my 95 10V because i'd have to put alot of work and money into it to make it safely driveable again, and then I'd still have a sedan with really shitty paint (clearcoat peeling) which has too little room as a family hauler. So I'm thinking about parts I could use for my 94 855 T5M and my 96 855 R. Besides the dash and some switches and interior parts and headlights, fenders, doors etc. I was thinking about the driveshafts which should fit in the 96 (both AT, donor NA).
Now i am wondering if i can pull the driveshafts and put the NA back together to keep it rollable. Should work, or am I wrong?

Pulling the driveshafts should keep it rollable, but you will have to drain some of the trans oil on the 4 speed auto so as to not leak oil I believe. If the 96 you are talking about is the T5 then the driveshafts for a turbo are usually heavier duty than an NA, especially the LHS one. RHS might be ok.

Check the diameters of the shafts and a visual comparison.

Driveshafts should be interchangeable...from turbo to n/a but not vise versa because n/a ones are thinner in diameter.
They would work,i guess, but wouldn't manage with extra HP.

It is worth physically checking as Volvo consolidated a lot of part numbers so you may be lucky and actually have a turbo set on the NA.
