Do you mean any aftermarket shaft, or this specific brand called 'Diversified shafts'?
Their v70xc shaft (new) costs $510.

I have found various parts for Volvo prop shafts on eBay and then cross referenced out from there.

The issue w Volvo prop shafts are some are welded and not serviceable without cutting the shaft while others have circlips and can be reworked.

Which do you have? Post a picture.

Update!

I was sort of put of replacing just the U joint because I figured I should replace the end joints as well since both rubber boots were bad. And this would cost me about as much effort and € as a remanufactured shaft so I started to keep an eye out for a remanufactured or good but used shaft.

Picked up a remanufactured propshaft for what I think was a bargain.

Before buying it, I compared it to my original propshaft (of which the center bearing/u joint has seized) and the total length and flanges/joints are identical.

The only thing is that the center carrier bearing is in a different place, just about 1cm further down the length of the shaft, toward the back of the car.
Since it was quite a good deal I bought it anyway am now wanting to install it by drilling extra holes in the flange/plate that you bolt the carrier bearing to.
I was just thinking to drill two large/oversize holes in approximately the right place and then fine tune by installling the axle and then center the joint 'where it wants to settle' using original bolts + big washers.
I think I've read this being done before, any expieriences?

Thanks!

Joost

So, today I installed my new propshaft and it works great.

Now there is a new problem: a whining noise coming from the angle gear. I had the car running in Drive with al four wheels up in the air.
Using a mechanic's stethoscope, I found grinding noise coming from inside the angle gear.
Checked the oil and it is black and thin.
Ordered a siphon hose/syringe + new 75/90 oil + an additive that is supposed to reduce gear whine.

Will probably flush the angle gear a few times and let you know whether the whine is reduced.

I'll probably get around to this next weekend so any insights in the meantime are welcome.

So, today I pumped out as much of the black, stinky, dirty angle gear fluid as I could and topped off with fresh 75w90. Then drained again, anf again. After two flushes, I put in new fluid and a solution called Ditoil additive 2901 which is supposed to reduce friction even further.
The noise then seemed to have smoothened a bit, but has not gone softer.
I then tried Wizechatmgr's tip on changing out tires front to back and adjusted tire pressure, but changing and/or inflating tires has made the sound louder!
I find this weird because it was indeed time to change tires, the front ones were more worn than the ones in the back.

I will drive it like this for a while and see if the additive in the angle gear maybe needs to have some time to worj effectively, but otherwise I think I'll just take out the propshaft and sell it since it has just been remanufactured.
