'99 V70, FWD, non-turbo, base -- fistful of codes and no start Topic is solved

Subject line says it all. PO1057, PO1057 pending, PO1041, PO328, PO705

At least one is a PNP code, another is a knock sensor.

Wife says car started to run rough. She parked it. I went to get her and drove to mechanic for code reading. He doesn't have a scanner that goes back before 2000.

Went to retrieve car from mechanic and it won't start. Mileage is 223k. Never had PNP issues and have never messed w/PNP. Had knock sensor code before, but it went away.

Any suggestions before I start throwing parts at it?

Knock sensor - P0328

Antenna Ring - P01057 - It could be as simple a s a dirty connector on this. Try removing the cover on the steering column and then removing the antenna ring connector and clean it with connector cleaner and try the car. No need to fit the column cover to test. Antenna rings do fail, but you also have a chipped key. If cleaning the connector doesn't work, if you have another key try that. This issue will prevent starting.

Can't find a code for P01041. By chance could it be P0141? If so it is the pre-cat O2 sensor.

I'd start with the antenna ring check.

Did the car get a tank of gas recently? IT could be bad gas.

Thanks Neil. Two additional potentially relevant symptoms. For the past few weeks the car has been surging/groaning at idle. No perceptible change in RPM, it is a sound/ feel thing. Also, on the drive to the mechanic, the shift arrow was flashing. Never seen that before.

i would look at cleaning the antenna ring connector. Ideally if you can leave it fitted around the ignition switch as the front plastic clip is a joke and can break just by looking at it. It is not the end of the world if it does as the column surround will hold it in place.

If it happens again then try carrying the spare key for a while. In P2 key fobs which are different the chips can fail as we found out and first it went intermittent. If the car then starts with the other key it may be the chip is going but I do think that is a long shot.

Remember on ME7 1999 its crank- fire - stall, then crank with no firing if the Immob isnt being set.

Or at least for my sample of N=1 it is.

Truth.

I'd been having this issue occasionally for the last few years now. Replaced my original antenna ring last weekend and no issues with starts since then.

Only have one key. Believe the antenna ring has already been changed, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the problem.
