NEW Parking Brake shoes/cables/rotors but Cable is kind of tight

Post by pdr1966sc »

I am almost done installing new shoes, cables, rotors on my 06' V70R.
Cables are Volvo
This car uses the fixed length "H" bar NOT the starwheel adjuster.
I found - even relaxed - that the rotor (new) fit over the shoes was actually pretty snug.

Secondly, I am finding that there is like NO EXTRA cable when trying to hook up inside.
I have the adjuster nut backed way down, so the threaded end of the pull cable is about 25% BELOW the surface (in the hole) of the adjuster nut - I don't dare go more.
Yes to get the cables over the hooks takes a little extra length even so - I am concerned that I am going to actually a have some tension present in the system once hooked - does this seem 'normal' or may I gain a bit once they ARE hooked up and I pull on things a few times.

Not much but my impression is that I wish the cables were like 5mm longer..........

The cables are quite tight even when the brake is off - from my recent experience with P2 brakes on my 2005 V70

Pictures in thread - search under '2005 V70NAM56 parking' and you should find it.

Double check those part numbers with your VIN in case there are different parts for 'R' models vs others.

Ive never replaced the cables on mine so I can't guide here.

Have it all together now, working nicely, NOT dragging as I feared, cables seated in the spindles, nice action up front with the adjuster nut in a sensible position.
