Can you still perform software upgrades with a cloned DICE tool and the 3 day Vida subscription from volvotechinfo? Thanks!

No, All software upgrades must be aquired via an authorised Volvo dealer. Even a independent shop with a VIDA subscription has to go through a authorised Volvo dealer.

The independents I have done consulting work for get VIDA and their software from VolvoTechInfo.com

OBD-II law requires any shop that buys the necessary equipment and support system must be able to buy and install emissions related componentry which includes the aoftware when it is needed. Volvo (and all but a few carmakers) go beyond that and allow full vehicle access for diagnostics and replacement of parts.
There is software that indy shops can't get but it is for accessory installation and feature removal.

The issue with the non-genuine or counterfeit comm tools is that they may not have the bootloader software that is needed. Dice has updates on occasion and the ones you have may not have the bootloader needed for the currently sold software. (bootloader may not be 100% correct but it a similar software handling protocol)
