Different rims/snow tire sizes? Topic is solved

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Different rims/snow tire sizes?

Post by 850TurboTurtle »

Hi - I'm looking at getting different rims/tires for my 2005 S80 T6 for winter snow trips. It currently has low profile 235/45 R17s on it. But I've heard that low profile tires suck for traction and I might be better off with smaller 16 rims and a fatter tire with a little lower pressure.

Anyone have recommendations on what to get/avoid? Any problem getting 16s over the calipers, etc?

I live near seattle w lots of mountain passes, skiing, snow trips with the family. The current tires feel like dress shoes on ice. :-)

The 16" rims will fit if ET is 49mm

This is Volvos standard tire/rim setup for S80 T6:

215/55ZR16 7Jx16 ET49
225/55ZR16 7Jx16 ET49
225/50ZR17 7.5Jx17 ET49
235/40ZR18 8Jx18 ET49

Go to tirerack.com I got a set of snow tires pre-mounted on wheels sold by tire rack. Works really well. Fit perfectly.
