Coil replacement Manufacturer?

Heh guys. Can anyone recommend a good coil manufacturer that won't cost me what I just paid at the Volvo dealer? ($113.00)
My V70 has 150k miles on her and the guy at the dealer just told me today that they usually replace all five (5) coils at once around 90k miles. Since I bought this car back in July, I have replaced Coil #4 and just today replaced Coil #1.

Also is this a task I can do myself? Thanks much!

I'd say dealer is exaggerating. Sure they can fail but not at a specific point like that and not so soon. Just get a (used) spare if you're worried another one will fail you.

Fcpeuro.com has a good price on Bosch(factory manufacturer) with lifetime warranty, so if they go bad free replacement. Cant be at that.

Definitely a DIY job, just unbolt and bolt.

FCP has them for in Bosch for $47

Is it needed to replace all 5 ? Maybe at 150k is not a bad idea. These can fail all of a sudden and one must NOT drive the car with a misfire. However, as noted we can go with used ones as well.

Usually, there is a reason behind failed coils. Mostly worn spark plugs or top of the engine overly hot. Your n/a may need this www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOx3Q8vqoz4

Run to fail method....replace when you get the P030x code. You have to stop driving when it comes or else risk unburned gas ruining the cat.

Pm model, replace all 5 at 100 k miles. Recover cost of one selling 4 working ones on eBay, keep one in spare.

Thanks much everyone for your posts. I unfortunately still ran the car to work and back for two days (40 mile total) when it was misfiring. Hopefully I did not screw things up too much. Is the P030 code good for any of the five (5) coils? I had the plugs replaced with Bosch back in August when Coil #4 died and I have read comments that I should only replace plugs with OE Volvo ones.
As I look down into the engine compartment, facing the windshield, what is the # order of the coils? Is it a simple left to right, #1 thru #5 or some convoluted pattern?

100k, really. That surprises me. Compare to the life of an old style coil, which you rarely had to even deal with.

Can you do any multi-meter testing on your used ones to see which is the best to keep?

For my BMWs and Volvos I have at home, I simply go to junk yard and get a few OEM ignition coils as spare.
About $10/each.

That's PM model, where you never experience failure. 5 coils is cheaper than the three distributor caps and rotors and spar plug wires you will go through on an older car.

I made and documented the resistance measurements but they fail to open suddenly , I think.

You only need the working one to last the time you get a free replacement from FCP, of course.

Anyone caught buying one then using the free policy to get the next failure free will have a delta link tool put up their backside, or a red hot dipstick used as the old Syphillis cure
