Heat question new owner S40 t5

Post by Slohatch »

I recently bought a 06’ Volvo S40 t5. When I turn the heat on it blows hot air and then sounds like a dog growling somewhere in the dash and goes cold then does it again and goes hot. It does this the whole time you drive it Im assuming the growling noise is a actuator moving something. But just wanna make sure what I should look for before I go spend several hundred dollars on parts at Volvo. Thank you ahead of time

When the temperature goes cold, does it happen on both sides? Could be the damper motor. Video makes it look like a headache to access, the youtuber cut their own access panel to get at the actuator. I would recommend switching to DS control, then PS control, so see if the symptom presents on both sides. If so, you might be looking at an issue along the lines of this? viewtopic.php?t=56355
They're calling it a blend door in their post though, which I don't believe is what the actual part is called though.
