Relative oil and coolant bargains.

Post by rguzz »

Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic 10 bucks rebate so after that around 12 bucks for 5 quarts, until the end of the year. Xerex G05 coolant 13 bucks concentrate, 11 bucks premix @ Walmart on line. I hate doing business with Walmart and Amazon, but these are about the only exceptions I spend money on there. I have no special fondness for the large auto parts chains either, of course.

I’ve been happy with that pennzoil in most of my cars , but Walmart does not get any business from me.

My high mileage T5 did not like it and spat it out as blue smoke on overrun , due to worn valve guidestem seals

It does not do this with the Mobil One High Mileage elixir

Which grade ? I just got the 0W-30 Penn, it's a little secret being the only large surface oil that is actually bottled and made in Germany - it seems is the same as Shell Helix Ultra 0W-30 in Europe. Even the Castrol 0W-30 is now made in Belgium (I think in the past it was made in Germany). Certainly a fairly light grade not really good for hot climates, but pretty perfect for them Canadian and North-East places (NY, etc). I like that the 0W-30 warms the engine (and cabin heat) quite faster in winter, compared with a 5W-30 synth. My car takes a long time to warm up in a cold day (thermostat is good)
