S40 B4164S leaking coolant

Post by bncpwn »

Hey there.
Well I've got my first huge issue with my S40 B4164S..
Basiclly it was leaking cooland so I took it to a car mechanic. He said that probably the water pump leaking so he changed it with the timing belt.. But it is still leaking, and I'm not so experienced with cars. He was saying that there's some place where the water pump mounts on, one of the bolts were broken so he had to drill a bigger base on it, and somehow mounted that water pump, but it is still leaking.. He said that he thinks there's some hairline break on the block itself somewhere where the water pump mounts, but he can't find it. Sounds so suspicious, but it costed me a lot to even get that pump with timing belt changed..
Is it possible to the engine block break there, and leak the water, or he just fcked up something with that water pump mounting?
Its leaking only when the car runs, and leaks a lot, its just cooland drops every second twice, or similar speed.
I was thinking about buying a complete engine, and just get changed with other mechanic, but I dont really see here B4164S's for sell, or there's not so much.. Was thinking about getting a B4204S, saw a few for sale, would it be an impossible mission? If I get the transmission, ECU, wiring harness and engine, would it possible to fit, or would need a lot welding etc? Not saying its a must, but if it would be possible without a huge rebuild.. :) So yeah, a lot of questions. :D If nothing happens I might go abroad and buy an engine there, probably in Germany I could find easily B4164S's. :D
Cheers.

Take the guess work out. Power wash the engine, put some Trace Dye in the coolant then use a UltraViolet lamp to trace the leak back to the source.

I would do more investigative work to determine where the leak actually is.
