2008 XC 70 tailgate won't open

Hello! I believe this is my first post and I realize this is not a new subject. I am stumped!
My power tailgate is stuck closed on my 2008 XC 70 and I've tried every push/pull combp going. Still can't get it opened. The solenoid appears to be working making the correct sounds but it doesn't open. Does anyone know the trick? Once I get it opened, I can then remove the panel and have a good look at the mechanism. I have a hard time believing that the Volvo engineers didn't provide a workaround as this problem has been around for many years previously. Thank you in advance for your help or suggestions.
