I'm mildly interested in purchasing a 3.2 S80 in the 2012-2014 range and would probably want to stay under 60,000 miles.
Current rides are a 2003 V70 2.4 NA and a 2005 S80 2.5T so I've kinda become familiar with the whole white block FWD thing. Issues are creeping up with the current S80 (205,000 miles) so we're thinking we might jump into something with less miles that won't break the bank in the process. But not looking for a fixer-upper either!
So all you 3.2 owners out there, what do I need to be aware of? Any advantage to one year vs another? Any particular problem areas to watch for? Any features that you love or despise? Is the 3.2 a timing belt or chain engine? Replacement interval?
Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Re: S80 3.2 Opinions
Chrism,
The Volvo 3.2 has been very reliable for me so I purchased a second vehicle that has the 3.2.
My first 3.2 is a 2008 Land Rover LR2 with ~116K miles (the LR2 uses the S80 platform)
My second 3.2 is a 2010 Volvo S80 with ~125K miles.
I'll assume that you are looking for a front wheel drive vehicle.
To answer your question the 3.2 has a timing chain, so no belt to change.
There are a few items that need attention as the mileage get closer to 100K or the age get near 10 years.
Because you are looking for a newer vehicle you will have time for the maintenance.
I recommend that you download the brochure (here is one from 2013)
http://www.motorologist.com/wp-content/ ... ochure.pdf
and look at the options that interest you
For my 2010 S80 I have
BLIS - this seems to work well
Dimming rear view mirror - works fine
Leather Memory seats - very nice to have if you have more than one regular driver
HomeLink - nice to have as well
Heat seats (front and rear) - I am really glad that I go t the heated seats
Parking sensors (front and rear) - I am also really glad that I got these
Sunroof - works fine
you can see my thread on the $10,000 S80 challenge for more information about what to expect as yo go above 100,000 miles
Good Luck
Paul

Re: S80 3.2 Opinions
Thanks for the great info, Paul.
Yes looking for FWD - something to replace our 2005 S80 that's starting to reveal its age. We were actually looking for a 2015-2016 S80 4 cylinder but they seem to have become scarce all of a sudden. So in order to get adequate rear leg room AND good gas mileage we started looking into the S60 Inscription. Anyway I saw the 3.2 S80 for sale on CL and it sort of piqued my interest. I know the gas mileage wouldn't be the same something like a 2012-2013 can be picked up fairly reasonably.
