TYC Headlamp Installation Question

Just got the first of two TYC headlamps. They will probably go into the '98 V70 which has terrible lighting even with new bulbs.

Question 1: There is a metal piece rolling around in the high beam side which I am guessing may be some sort of anti-glare "shield." Has anyone dealt with this thing? What happens if you leave it out?

Question 2: The up/down adjustment appears to have a plastic locking tab installed that prevents adjustment. Lest I break it experimenting with getting it off, does anyone recall how to get it off?

Now, that I have a good headlamp, I'll be better able to evaluate the headlamps I have on my two cars. I expect that the plating is in terrible shape.

Best if you can post pictures of what you are asking about as I can't picture what you are relating to. It may be a faulty made part.

Neil, the piece looks like this:

It seems pretty evident that it goes in like this and limits where the light hitting the reflector can come from:

Here's another question: What happens when you leave this metal piece out? On my old tired headlight, the high beam is still plenty bright and the HB apparently doesn't have this metal piece. Maybe I will look inside the headlight on the car and see if that metal "shade" is in there, and then maybe remove it and check the light output...
